Award in Adventure Education

An MQF 3: Award in Adventure Education is scheduled to start on 21st February 2026. This 20-hour award runs on Saturday afternoons and spans between 3:30 and 5:30pm.

The award is open for students attending secondary schools and wish to participate in outdoor adventure education. All ten sessions are planned to help the students understand their comfort zone and how to cautiously challenge.

The hours cover activities such as abseiling, zip lining, outdoor cooking, OCR, map reading and orienteering, trekking, team building games, emergency aid and survival creative building.

At the end of the course, successful students are presented with the MQF 3 Award in Adventure Education and the SLC certification with individual commendations to enhance their school leaving portfolio.

Additional Information
a.      Students sitting for the SEC 32 Syllabus (2026): Physical Education, should benefit from this award since it covers LO 7 and Subject Focus 7 – Outdoor Trekking.

Holistic Development
The award covers HD 7.7, 8.7 and 9.7 of the SEC syllabus 2024.

LO7 is covered
‘Practice outdoor skills whilst trekking a set distance during school hours. I can enhance cooperative and leadership skills through team building activities. (Paper I & Paper II: written)’

Subject Focus 7 - Outdoor Trekking is completely covered
This covers a 6km trek around the historical village of Pembroke. The students operate in small teams, use a compass, identify landmarks, and find their way along a predetermined track presented on a route book. The team is also required to identify and describe possible hazards along the route.

Emergency aid describes a first aid box and the contents therein. It also identifies the most common injuries related to outdoor education and the difference between strains, sprains, bruises, cuts, abrasions and their proper treatment. Hypothermia, hyperthermia and lack of hydration will be discussed and practiced with the proper use of a space blanket.
